She was born at 24 weeks, a period dubbed by the doctors as “the gray zone”. Her parents had relied on IVF to conceive her. They named her Aarshiya. Born so prematurely, Aarshiya’s chances of survival were low but not without hope.
Newborn Aarshiya was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for three whole months and needed special care round the clock. But with a feisty spirit, the child fought her way to recovery.
As I was flipping through the images on my phone yesterday, I stumbled upon the picture of 5-year-old Aarshiya shared by her mother a few months back. It gives me immense joy and delight to share with you all that she has grown up to be a healthy kid who loves playing with toys and exploring her surroundings.
And a message for those reading this: Most preemies catch up to their peers born on time, but it’s important to be patient. A baby who’s faced significant health issues may need more time to reach his/her milestones.
